How to force a sync of SkyDrive?

I’m a big fan of the SkyDrive -application/platform, however sometimes the sync doesn’t start soon after a file is changed. This phenomena happens with me sometimes when small (text-based) files are changed. You might force a sync by closing the SkyDrive and then restarting the SkyDrive-application, but this is a relative time-consuming process.

There is trick to get the SkyDrive-application sync those files. But, Office-files are synched almost immediately. Thus, the trick is to open an Office-file right after another file is changed and SkyDrive will scan all files for changes. It’s not even needed to modify this Office-file, you just need to open an Office-file.

This applies only to Windows 7 and 8, not 8.1. SkyDrive-synchronization is deeper integrated there in the operating system in Windows 8.1, thus I can’t say a lot about it, except that SkyDrive didn’t like it that some subfolders were linked to another location via mklink, like I described earlier in another post.
